Medusa’s Labyrinth is first person horror adventure set in ancient Greece, and it’s developed and published by Guru Games.

Horror games are usually best experience from the first person perspective. If you see you’re own character the player can no longer identify with the danger. That’s why a game as interesting as Medusa’s Labyrinth could have only worked as a first person.

Ever since I read all the mythology surrounding ancient Greece I wondered how it would be to go hunt or even survive and encounter with the fabled Medusa. Some of you might remember that she’s the monster that would turn whoever entered her layer to stone just by looking at them. It’s one of the best tales and the ones that ends up in movies all the time. It was about time to get a proper game with the same idea.

The developers from Guru Games have been very direct about the development of this title. They said that they originally intended it to be a much longer and complex game, but they didn’t have the necessary funds, so they decided to release the complete work as a single chapter, and that is Medusa’s Labyrinth.

The game uses the Unreal Engine, and the environment is very well rendered, with a ton of things that seem to be straight from the ancient Greece. It’s a really disturbing experience, especially after you enter the lair. You start to hear voices or to see a shadow, and the game taunts you regularly.

There are a few stealth elements to the gameplay, but it’s not a tough game, although it will leave a lasting impression on the players. Despite being quite short, the fact that the level design and the action are cleverly distributed, it seems longer than it actually is.

It’s a real shame that we only got to play Medusa’s Labyrinth and not the entire experience, but it’s better than nothing at all. If you like horror games, and you want to play a really cool title, then you should give Medusa’s Labyrinth a try.
