A stroke of genius is all it takes to come up with a concept that attracts millions of fans and supporters, as it was proven so many times in a variety of fields. It’s a very obvious trend with video games as well, especially when you think about how many extremely simple games have managed to gain massive popularity levels, including names like 2048 or Flappy Bird.
Max Capacitor is a puzzle game that features very simple gameplay mechanics, yet most players should have a blast trying to solve the levels without giving up along the way. In essence, the main goal is to move a few objects around and place them on specific spots without getting stuck in the process. The mechanics are very similar to Sudoku, but there are a few new ideas you have to get used to.
First of all, the capacitors need to be charged first, or at least most of them. They can be activated by brushing them to an already charged capacitor, which is pretty simple, in theory. On the other hand, you also have to take into consideration the fact that two capacitors become connected once they touch, and they cannot be broken apart.
The stages take full advantage of these mechanics, which means that you need to calculate every move or risk getting stuck. Thankfully, that’s not such a big deal, because the game features a very handy Undo function that allows you to quickly go back one or multiple moves. In fact, you can reset everything by holding down the Undo key for a few seconds, although a classic reset button would have been nice as well.
When it comes to the graphics, the top-down perspective limits the visual quality, but the game doesn’t feel cheap, nor does it look too awful. In fact, it is quite colorful and engaging, especially since you’ll much busier trying to figure out the puzzles. Obviously, a bit of diversity in the background would have been better, but it’s not a major issue.
All things considered, Max Capacitor achieves its purpose, which is to make you feel inadequate and slow. However, it’s also very simple in many regards, not to mention the fact that it features an unlimited Undo function that gets you out of trouble in a flash.
