Klobbe!

Runner games are designed to be both challenging and enjoyable at the same time, while also being as simple to play as possible. Hence, smooth and responsive controls are a must when you have to react as quickly as possible to all sorts of traps and enemies. The levels should be engaging too, otherwise the experience gets repetitive in a rush.

Klobbe! is a simple endless runner with tough levels and a story mode that follows the exploits of a little tank trying to become a cloud. The adventure takes him through a variety of interesting locations, not to mention the fact that many enemies try to put an end to the journey. On the other hand, your only concern is to avoid the obstacles, since there’s not a lot you can do about the story.

Your character can perform a variety of moves in order to get past traps or enemies, and you have to remember them all in order to stay alive. Ducking, jumping or using missiles to blow away obstacles are all part of the fun, but you can also combine some of these to obtain special moves. Hence, you can jump much higher from a ducking position, as well as launch more powerful missiles in order to tackle bigger obstacles.

The annoying part is that you have to get used to laggy controls that make it very difficult to react to the obstacles ahead. There’s always a slight delay to your input, which is definitely not what you want to see in a game that technically rewards good reflexes. It can take a while to get used to the keybindings, because they are not exactly intuitive.

On the other hand, there’s definitely a lot of potential at work here, because both the endless and the story modes have plenty of content to keep you busy. The artwork is quite nice throughout the adventure, and you can tell that the developers tried to tell a story using background artwork. It’s a shame that the controls might cause you to quit, but such issues can be easily fixed with a few patches.

Even if Klobbe! provides you with a rather disappointing experience at the moment, things could improve a lot in the future, especially with enough effort on behalf of the developers. Thus, it’s certainly worth a try and keeping an eye on it for further developments.
