Insects may not look like very complex creatures, but they can be very intelligent once they form colonies. This is true for ants, termites and bees, although they manifest their intelligence in a variety of different ways. Regardless of what kind of insects they are, a hive can achieve incredible tasks, or even conduct entire territory wars with other colonies.
Honeycomb Clash is a simple and fast-paced strategy game in which you have a pretty straightforward purpose: conquer as much territory as you can before the enemy gets a chance to do the same. The goal is to conquer the tile on which the enemy virus is on, but you cannot get there until you manage to take what’s in between. There are plenty of other obstacles as well.
The term real-time is about as representative as it can be in this case, given the fact that you have to click as fast as you can and do it at the same time as your opponent. Each tile requires a certain quantity of resources in order to be conquered, but you can get as many as you can click on as long as you have the resources. Obviously, it’s important that you acquire these resources faster than the enemy.
As such, there are special tiles you can conquer, which provide you with production and storage bonuses. Whether you gain more per second or you can afford more expensive tiles, it’s a good thing to expand toward these tiles in the beginning. On the other hand, the AI usually tries to close the deal as quickly as possible, which means that it attacks as soon as the match starts.
Speaking of which, the artificial intelligence is pretty well coded, but there can still be situations that lead to stalemates and futile actions, such as conquering the same four tiles ad infinitum. This is actually a much more severe with the entire concept, because it’s easy to get stuck in a loop when both players are required to either attack or defend a specific section of the map.
When it’s all said and done, Honeycomb Clash certainly has its flaws, but the core concept is worth pursuing. Some things need to be changed, while others need to be removed entirely, yet even in this state, the game can be very addictive for some reason.
