Gunslingers

There are many stories regarding the Wild West and the men that ruled it, and almost all of them are said to have been exceptional shots. Being a good marksman back then was probably the most useful skill a man could have, given the constant violence that plagued the region. Naturally, most of this stuff is actually made up by Hollywood, but there is some truth to the stories.

Gunslingers is a pretty interesting concept on paper, because it features some fresh ideas in regards to gameplay. It also has a hefty selection of bugs and problems, but given the fact that the game is in Early Access right now, it’s only natural to require some work. Still, some of the issues run pretty deep, and they need to be fixed sooner rather than later, otherwise players are going to avoid future developments.

In short, this is an online turn-based tactics game, which actually plays a lot like a shooter. There are two teams that have to compete against each other, and every player has the freedom to choose an approach. Obviously, teamwork is recommended and quite efficient, but it’s not at all enforced by the game. Thus, whether you play King of the Hill or Team Deathmatch, it all depends on your attitude and ability to coordinate with others.

The mercenaries come in a variety of classes, and it is up to you to choose the one you prefer. They all have different roles in battles, and it would be ideal to have one of each most of the time. Whether you play as a medic, sniper or robot, it’s vital to help your teammates and put your character’s special abilities to use. You can customize each character with special items and gear to increase their stats.

The graphics are actually quite nice, especially since the game uses isometry and high-resolution textures. While the technology is pretty old, everything looks sharp and modern, which is wonderful for the general atmosphere. The soundtrack is decent as well, with plenty of tunes to keep your mind on edge during combat.

Finally, it is worth noting that Gunslingers allows you to spend real money on bonus power-ups and extra power, which makes it rather unfair to those who do not. There’s not much content as of right now, since there are only a couple of maps and game modes to choose from.
