Sci-Fi holds a special place in our hearts next to the fantasy genre when it comes to games, and they are usually not so different from one another, except that Sci-Fi sounds more plausible due to it dealing with impossible phenomena being explained through "scientific" methods. As such, a wide variety of games have always been available to the general public, some of the very first arcade games belonging to the Sci-Fi genre. One such game is Galaxy Guardian, a simple yet addicting Sci-Fi shooter where you take control as the Galaxy's last line of defense.
The galaxy is in danger! Armadas of hostile aliens invaded without warning, and they want to enslave all the planets., and it is your job as the Guardian, an orbital combat platform, to rescue humanity. You're equipped with such combat systems as impulse lasers, beam guns, plasma guns, gravitational beams, and rocket launcher oh which allow conducting an effective battle against any invader ships. Of course, not everything is about offense, so a special shield, created by the force field generators, provides reliable protection against enemy lasers.
Graphics-wise Galaxy Guardian seems pretty dated, although it is understandable considering how lightweight it is and how almost non-existent the system requirements are. More so, the controls seem a bit clunky, since the crosshairs seem to serve no actual purpose and hitting your target looks more like a test of luck. To top it all off, you don't seem to have any enemy HP displayed, so you never know how much more you have to shoot before they blow up, which is especially nerve-wracking when facing entire swarms at once.
Galaxy Guardian doesn't require any skill at all to finish, except the conviction to hold the shooting button pressed at all times and enough patience to wait for the level to end. This doesn't make Galaxy Guardian a bad game, just the type of title you usually try when you are extremely bored.
