Fugitive Shift
Help a crew of characters with special powers escape from a facility full of armed guards #Stealth game #Adventure game #Tactical stealth #Stealth #Tactic #Top-down
There’s something quite fun about sneaking around enemies instead of attacking them, which is why the stealth genre is so beloved by gamers. Whether you enjoy Splinter Cell, Hitman or Assassin’s Creed, there are many franchises out there that feature different approaches to the concept, yet they still manage to feel somewhat the same in certain regards.
Fugitive Shift is a team-based stealth game in which you have to make use of each character in order to sneak around guards, disguise yourself as something else, or even attack them when they least expect it. Granted, it’s a jam game designed in a very short period of time, so it’s only natural that it features a lot of bugs. The concept as a whole is not very well polished either, but the idea is certainly tantalizing.
As such, you start with only one character, and his special ability is the fact that he can morph into any kind of object in order to disguise himself and avoid suspicion. Later on you rescue more guys, and they each have different skills, such as being able to camouflage themselves as guards, or even killing them from close range, depending on how you want to approach the situation.
There are situations when you are not able to stay out of sight at all times, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you die. In fact, the enemies take about 2 seconds to spot and shoot you, which usually gives you plenty of time to hide somewhere. It’s worth noting that you move using mouse clicks, and you always have to select the desired character.
It’s very easy to make mistakes because of this, especially since the control scheme is not exactly refined. You’ll routinely deal with misclicks and forced restarts, which can be pretty annoying. On top of that, the camera view is pretty uncomfortable, especially when you have to deal with tight corners and narrow corridors, because you cannot pan, zoom or rotate at all.
In the end, Fugitive Shift has the potential to make quite the impression, but not in its current state. Hence, as long as the gameplay is improved and the graphics are refined as well, this could certainly gain a bit of attention.
