Fruits of a Feather

Humans may have mastered the art of flight with the help of airplanes and hot air balloons, but it’s still not the same thing as being able to fly using just your own muscles. Hence, birds enjoy a lot more freedom than us, not to mention the fact that they can do it anywhere and anytime they want. Thankfully, we have computers that can simulate the mechanics pretty close to reality.

Fruits of a Feather is a casual game in which you play the role of a bird trying to gather as many fruits as possible. There’s nothing else you can do other than fly and admire the scenery, plus the fact that you have to collect every fruit you come across. On the other hand, it’s a great way to relax a little and admire the scenery, even if it gets repetitive rather quickly.

A little more variety would have been a godsend for the game, especially when it comes to the environment and the fruits you collect. Hence, the island is pretty much the same in every direction in regards to textures and the vegetation. Thankfully, at least the scenery changes and you get to see mountains, the sea and a few trees, but it’s still too small to enjoy a proper flight.

The flight model is not exactly realistic, especially when you decide to land. The bird acts very strangely once it’s on the ground, and it can also be pretty frustrating to fly straight into the desired direction. Most of the fault rests with the fact that the controls are pretty imprecise and badly implemented, but they are not too horrible either. In fact, you can get used to them if you show some patience.

As for the graphics, the game looks pretty neat, even if the quality level is pretty low. Thankfully, the graphic style goes very well with the low-poly models, which is why you can actually imagine the landscape as the developers intended. However, more variety is needed when it comes to the environment, as well as more types of fruit to keep boredom at bay.

All things considered, Fruits of a Feather can be quite fun over short periods of time, but it gets repetitive if you decide to play it for more than a few minutes. Hence, it certainly shows potential, but it’s not quite there yet.
