Simple, colorful games may not have the power to change your views on the world, but they are not designed to do that anyway. Instead, their role is to provide you with a short burst of entertainment, without asking too much of you in return. There are no frustrating platforming sections, no huge enemies to one-shot you dozens of times, and no fast-paced action scenes to stress you out.
Flower Park is an adventure game in which your role is to help everyone you meet, by simply talking to them and returning with the item they desire. The map is quite small, and the items in question are hidden in plain sight, so it’s all about the journey, not the challenge. Everything is as colorful as it can get, even if the graphics are a bit rugged.
The story is not complicated at all, since it can barely be called that. You play the role of a cute little creature that pops up near Flower Park all of a sudden, with the sole purpose of helping the inhabitants. However, it turns out that you were summoned by some kind of goddess, the same one that takes care of all the flowers and keeps them alive.
As mentioned before, each animal from the forest has a request that you have to complete. Hence, the rabbit wants a carrot, the owl wants its book, and the giraffe would love its beach ball back. These items can be found a couple of yards away from the said animals, so it should be quite simple to figure it out. However, there are other objectives as well, such as finding the key that opens a locked gate, or purifying the hearts you get from urns.
While the graphics are certainly colorful and jolly, it must also be mentioned that the actual level and character design is quite sloppy. The edges are a tad too rough to be pleasant, and the maps are too small and repetitive. Granted, you can probably ignore all this for the whole ten minutes it takes you to finish the game, but it would have been nice to see better artwork.
Flower Park may not feature exciting quests or memorable characters, but the audience it was designed for should not see a problem with that. Hence, if all you’re looking for is a bit of fun, this might as well be on your list.
