Fistful of Frags is a standalone multiplayer FPS based on the Source engine that’s set in the Wild West and is completely free to play.
Who doesn’t want to play a multiplayer game set in the old West, at a time when lawlessness was ruling the land, and the only way to settle a debt was with the gun? At least this is the romantic vision of that time that we learned from films. The same movies taught us that firefights at that time must have been quite a sight, so the expectations from Fistful of Frags are really high.
Despite the fact the game shows the age of the engine, the gameplay itself is very accurate, and it reflects very well your chances of survival, in a real firefight. In fact, you can see what was your time record for staying alive during each match.
Fistful of Frags is a multiplayer game that features a few modes, like team deathmatch, zone capture, and push the cart. The last two are variations on the team deathmatch mode, but they also provide players with a goal and not just an excuse to kill the other team.
The most notable aspect of the gameplay is that the weapons have various degrees of accuracy depending on the way they are held, the speed of the player at the time of the shot, the distance, and the gun itself. It’s a complex combination of factors that greatly enhance the gameplay. Even if you have an enemy in your sights, there is no guarantee that you will hit him.
Also, because the best way to enhance your chances of hitting someone is by aiming down the sight and sitting still, so you might notice that Fistful of Frags is actually much less chaotic than other multiplayer games because the enemies are often standing still so that they can take a better shot too.
Fistful of Frags is based on the Source engine, but it seems to be an older version. The game doesn’t look all that good, and it shows. Pretty much everything in the game reveals the age of the game, with the exception of the guns which are modeled by the developers.
On the other hand, in Fistful of Frags, the graphics doesn’t matter all that much since you’re always focusing on hitting your target, and you pay less attention to the environment.
Fistful of Frags is one of the few multiplayer games that tackles the old Wild West in a meaningful manner, and, despite the fact that it doesn’t look all that good, it’s still fun to play.
