Dungeon Adventure: Greenskin Invasion

Orcs always seem the bad guys in every story, except maybe in the WarCraft universe, where not all of them were corrupted. However, most fantasy heroes start their career by slaying a couple of orcs, since it seems to be the first step toward dragons and other powerful creatures. As a rule of thumb, orcs are usually green and quite dumb, although they make up for it with their impressive physical power.

Dungeon Adventure: Greenskin Invasion is a roguelike RPG in which your task is the same as in every other dungeon crawler: survive the journey deeper into the dungeon and defeat every monster that gets in your way. Granted, this one is a lot more relaxed and simple than most roguelikes, but you can still run into trouble if you are too cocky and take your chances against the wrong enemy.

There are multiple character classes to choose from, not all of which are available from the start. Whether you play as a sorceress, an amazon or a paladin, the first couple of journeys are going to end rather quickly, mainly because you do not know what to expect. While each class has a unique skill that comes in handy on the battlefield, you do not have direct control over it, so you kind of have to wait and hope.

Exploration is key, because you can stumble into resources and rare items by simply waltzing around the map. Granted, the map are quite small and comprised out of a handful of tiles, but each enemy usually drops something as well. Besides gold, you can also acquire materials and arcade dust, which are used in crafting powerful items. You can also win crystals that are not lost upon death, and which are used to unlock more character classes.

The gameplay is simple and to the point, since you only need to click on the desired tile in order to move and on the enemy in order to attack. However, it’s annoying that you can only move one tile at a time, and you cannot click on a different part of the map to watch the character walk there, even if the entire map is visible and explored. The graphics are quite basic as well, although that’s not an issue in the genre.

Even if Dungeon Adventure: Greenskin Invasion is too simple for hardcore roguelike fans, it should the perfect way to familiarize casual players with the concept of permadeath and constant combat. There’s plenty of content for the game to remain fun for quite some time.
