Dragon Sin
Bring down huge dragons using flashy sword moves in this fast-paced action game inspired by Devil May Cry and Dark Souls #Action game #Fighting game #Action adventure #Action #Adventure #Fighting
It’s impossible to talk about fantasy RPGs without mentioning dragons, because they are practically everywhere. Naturally, it would be boring if they were all the same, which is why there are hundreds of possible variations out there, ranging from ethereal, to chromatic and undead dragons. Not only that, but in some cases they are evil and bent on destruction, while other times they are wise creatures guarding the world they inhabit.
Dragon Sin is a third-person action game inspired by classics like Devil May Cry and Dark Souls, except that it’s a bit simpler than the latter and not quite as fast-paced as the former. Granted, this is more of a student project than a proper game designed with a specific player base in mind, so it’s only natural that it doesn’t tick the right boxes. Even so, there’s plenty of action for everyone.
The story is pretty basic and not particularly impressive, but at least it tries to provide you with some background before throwing you into a weird world populated by dragons. As such, everything starts when a couple of dragons start consuming humans in order to gain their magic powers. They become addicted and start invading cities, which is why the main character’s home is now full of menacing dark dragons that need to be defeated.
Your character is pretty handy with a sword, and he also possesses the ability to turn into some kind of dragon himself. This grants him a lot of additional power, but he can only stay in that form for as long as he has energy. It’s a cool gimmick, however, because it’s nice to boost your strength when things get tough, especially since you can also jump much higher and avoid enemy contact.
In terms of graphics, Dragon Sin is far from legendary, but for an indie production it actually looks quite nice. The environments are a bit too linear and boring, on the other hand, mainly because the level design is pretty poor. As for the controls, they are very smooth and responsive, and it’s nice that you can utilize a gamepad if you have one.
Dragon Sin is not the kind of game that catches you in its spell for hours, but it’s fairly well-executed when you consider the small development team behind it. Thus, it’s worth a try, especially since it’s completely free.
