Doctor Who is one of the oldest still-running TV shows out there, given the fact that the first episode aired over fifty years ago. Over the years, many different characters have played the role of the doctor, all of which left their personal imprint on the show and split the fans into separate sides. Now, you get the chance to enjoy a game set in the same universe as the show.
Doctor Who 3D Platformer is not much of a game to begin with, but more of a university project for a class. Hence, the developer did not really intend on making this suitable for players all over the world, so you should be prepared to live with a few inconveniences. The first inconvenience is the fact that there is no story in the game, so nothing you do has any meaning or purpose.
Secondly, the action takes place on some kind of island up in the sky, where Daleks roam free and there are coins you can collect. The experience is the same every time and you even start in the same spot every time you happen to die as well, so things might get boring in a rush. However, the level design is quite tricky and it may take you a long time to navigate the environment and reach all the coins.
One of the most annoying thing in the game is the fact that you can barely play it with a keyboard, mainly because the camera is horrible if you do not use a notepad to hold it steady. As such, you are constantly looking at the action from awful angles, which sometimes don’t even allow you to see your character, or the platform where you intend to jump.
Thankfully, things are a bit better when it comes to graphics, but not by a lot. The visual quality is by no means spectacular, nor does it feature any kind of special effects or high-resolution textures. However, the models are pretty smooth, even if they are very low-poly. You might be more distracted by the challenging control scheme to notice how everything looks anyway.
All things considered, Doctor Who 3D Platformer is not a bad idea, especially since it can be really fun for those who enjoy tricky platformers that require you to perform calculated jumps. However, this is definitely not the way to present it, so there’s still a long way to go until it can make anyone happy.
