Cyber City Madness

Virtual worlds are becoming a reality nowadays thanks to technologies like VR and AR, both of which are still in their infancy at the moment. However, the public has proven that it’s more than interested in them, which is why developers continue to improve the technology in order to convince even more people to give it a go. Even so, there’s a long way to go until we won’t be able to distinguish between real and virtual.

Cyber City Madness is not the type of game that tries to create confusion between reality and virtual, but it is a pretty modern concept as well. Hence, its biggest and most important feat is the fact that it contains an infinite world that’s generated on the go. Granted, it’s a very repetitive and simple world, but it just goes to prove how much technology has evolved in the last couple of decades.

There’s no story to talk about, given the fact that the whole goal of the game is for you to shoot the hordes of robots attacking from every direction. They look more like floating spheres than anything else, not to mention the fact that they literally spawn by the hundreds, but they are not very dangerous either. It’s a bit of a bummer that you never seem to thin their numbers, on the other hand.

Even if the landscapes are randomly generated on the go, the buildings all share the same texture and material, as do the streets and everything else. This means that the whole city looks the same, except of course that some buildings are taller and they have a different shape. It gets very repetitive after a while, and there’s no real incentive to keep exploring when you know that nothing really changes.

The graphics are pretty basic as well from a technical point of view, but then again it would require very powerful computers if everything was as detailed as in a game that comes with pre-built environments. The music goes pretty well with the general atmosphere, but it’s nothing to write home about either, given the fact that it’s a generic electronic tune.

When it’s all said and done, Cyber City Madness is on the right path, but it’s at the very start of the said path, because it seriously lacks content and variety. Thus, the game has tremendous potential if the developers keep working on it and improving the idea.
