Everyone wants a good job that pays well and provides them with a decent lifestyle, but most modern jobs require people to sit in a cubicle and perform annoying repetitive tasks for hours on end. Corporate jobs are not always soul-crushing, but most of them are designed to keep you in a constant state of stress and uncertainty, which toys with people’s minds.
Cubicle is a puzzle game in which your goal is to arrange a couple of blocks in such a way as to direct and reflect a laser beam into a blue dot. It may sound easy in theory, but once you start playing and get past the first handful of levels, things get a lot tougher to deal with. In fact, the game can be pretty challenging toward the end, at least if you do not have the necessary patience for it.
The gameplay appears to be some kind of metaphor for an individual working in a megacorporation, because you constantly have to move things around with no explanation or reason. It’s a pretty clever way of representing the problem, but you’ll quickly forget about hidden meanings after you stumble onto a particularly tough stage.
Only the mouse is needed in order to solve the puzzles, since the only thing you need to do is move the tiles around and figure out a way to reflect the beam toward the spot. It’s not always clear how the tiles work, but at least you can try multiple solutions before reaching the correct one. However, there’s a time limit for every level, so it’s important that you move quickly at all times.
As for the graphics and everything else technical, you shouldn’t expect anything too exciting in this regard, because the game is designed to look as basic as possible. It’s not a huge issue, on the other hand, at least if you find the gameplay mechanics interesting enough. The game runs on almost every machine, which is great news for those with weaker PCs.
In the end, Cubicle might get too repetitive and annoying after a while, but the challenging levels can keep you busy for a while. Moreover, it’s a different kind of experience if you are tired of the classic puzzle games.
