Cry of Fear
For those who still have a thing for the Half-Life 1 days this is a game that might bring back some memories #First person horror #Co-op horror #Half-Life engine #Horror #FPS #Survival
Cry of Fear is a Half-Life engine powered game that takes its players on a trip back to a few years ago. It’s a free to play title that was crafted during a long period and offers quite a bit of content. It provides both a single player campaign as well as a co-op multiplayer mode. However, in the looks department it doesn’t shine all that much, but the atmosphere makes up for that.
How you perceive Cry of Fear is entirely subjective because there are plenty of reasons to like it as there are to dislike it. The first depends on what you prefer in a horror game, the jump-scares, the gore, the tense narration, the audio, the creatures, the places and so on. Cry of Fear has a bit of all of them because it aims to bring together most of the core events and scenarios that are guaranteed to scare you.
On the bad side, all of that is merged with the help of some graphics and animations that are borderline decent. If you were to play this between 2006-2010, it might have had a chance in arguing that it has good graphics. Today, that discussion is lost, but even so, Cry of Fear doesn’t look all that bad for an indie title.
One thing Cry of Fear has plenty of and the good kind are jump-scares. For not having the visual appeal of a AAA title, the game makes it up with atmosphere and moments that scare you. Most of the time you’ll jump from those sudden encounters with the screaming mutants that jump at you knife first. There’s never a shortage of those and the buildup to the moments themselves is well-done.
To end, Cry of Fear is a good game for the fans of the genre; those who don’t mind average graphics and a slightly wonky gameplay. If you can get past that, it’s going to scare you in a lot of instances.
