Trivia games are a great way to put your common knowledge to the test, especially if you somehow manage to play for real money on a TV show. However, even video games are satisfying enough for most people, given the fact that some only do it to see how much they really know. Naturally, it depends on the nature of the questions, because no one is knowledgeable in every domain.
Crankies Workshop: Freebot Assembly is a simple true or false trivia game that allows you to show your smart side and compete for virtual currency and high scores. The game is a bit too short and lackluster in terms of content, on the other hand, because you can pretty much see everything there is to see in a matter of minutes. Still, it doesn’t cost any money, and you can get more out of it if you strive to get the most points.
The formula is fairly basic, since there are only ten questions to be answered. Each question starts with a particular value in cash, but this value drops rapidly the longer you take to answer it. You are not disqualified if you mess up one answer, because you can keep going even if you get all of them wrong. However, the questions are not exactly common knowledge, which is a bit of a bummer.
Another issue with the game is the nature of the questions, because there are some of them that appear to be way too obscure for many people to know or care about. Others are way too obvious, and the whole thing falls apart after a couple of rounds when things don't get any better . You can advance through three different ranks and ten robots, but everything stays the same more or less from your point of view.
As for the interface, there’s not a lot to complain about, given the fact that everything is as simple as it gets. You just have to click on the right button in order to answer the question, and the text is neatly displayed in the middle of the screen in a pretty big font. There are no other buttons or menus to distract you, although it must also be mentioned that the music gets repetitive in a rush.
Crankies Workshop: Freebot Assembly is probably not able to keep you occupied for more than an hour or so, especially if you are well-versed in random trivia. However, it can still be a cozy distraction for when you need something to do.
