There’s no denying that Minecraft is one of the most popular video games ever released, especially when it comes to the number of mods and clones that have popped over the years. The original game is still going strong, on the other hand, and it even allows players to create mods and extend the already huge experience with textures, gameplay modifications, or various other components.
ClassiCube is a free game that allows you to experience the original version of Minecraft and let your imagination run wild using the classic blocks we all know and love. Granted, this also supports new textures and tiles, which should be great for the creatives out there looking to prototype their ideas. On top of it all, you can also enjoy the game in multiplayer with other people.
The creative mode allows you to destroy blocks with one click and quickly access any type of block using the build menu, which is great if you just want to let your imagination run wild. In fact, you can activate a few cheats such as being able to fly, which makes it easier to deal with tall buildings. The game can also generate maps for you to explore, but don’t expect the same level of complexity as in the current Minecraft release.
In order to enjoy the multiplayer you have to create an account, which is obviously free of charge. However, you can only join the servers supported by the game, although the list is quite big, so there’s plenty to choose from. Working with other players may not always be easy or fun, but the single player can get a bit boring and repetitive, especially since the game lacks the latest AI features of the official Minecraft.
Lastly, the graphics have not been changed at all, so you can rest assured that everything looks just like the original did back in the day. You can even choose between a DirectX or OpenGL version, depending on your system’s capabilities. On top of that, it’s possible to create high-resolution textures and use them to bring your own designs to life.
ClassiCube does not come with anything original, but it’s a lot more forgiving in terms of system requirements, not to mention the fact that it’s free. Thus, it’s a great way to experience a small part of what Minecraft has become today.
