Sometimes, all you need to have a bit of fun and get rid of stress is a simple puzzle game to put your mind to work in a more playful way. Bright colors and a laidback attitude are helpful as well, although the most important element is the gameplay itself. Hence, even casual games can gather a huge fan base for themselves, as long as the experience remains fun for long periods of time.
Circular Level Reloaded has a pretty unique idea at its core, which could be turned into a more successful one with enough work and the proper presentation. While this may not be the case with the game at hand, you can still have moderate amounts of fun with it, as long as you enjoy brain teasers and having to come up with ingenious solutions to puzzles.
In essence, the gameplay revolves around a couple of stars placed near each other, which can be rotated in both directions. These stars also happen to have stones stuck to some of their sharp points, and you can transfer them between the stars by rotating them around. The goal is to rotate every star in such a way as to have the stones placed in the spaces that match their color.
Since all you need to do in order to play the game is click on the stars in order to rotate them, it is obviously quite simple and straightforward, not to mention easy for practically anyone to understand and play. Both mouse buttons can be utilized, depending on the direction you want to rotate the stars into. Naturally, although the mechanics are simple to understand, putting them into practice and solving the puzzles are entirely different problems.
The technical presentation is nothing to stand in awe of, but it gets the job done and it’s not bad enough to make you quit playing based solely on the visual aspect. The edges are very jagged and uneven, while the special effects sometimes feature way too many colors to make sense, but as a whole, the graphics are somewhat decent. Sound-wise, the tunes playing in the background are a bit too hardcore for what’s happening on the screen, but you can learn to like them, or turn them off entirely.
In the end, Circular Level Reloaded has few strong points to illustrate, but it can still be fun in some situations. Hence, if you just want something to relax and you do not really care about gameplay mechanics, this might as well be the game to try out.
