Boid
Claim territory and use your microorganisms to defeat the enemy in this fast-paced real-time strategy game #Real-time strategy #Strategy game #Tactical game #Strategy #Tactic #RTS
Life has a way to cling on even in the harshest conditions imaginable, which should make us glad that we too have what it takes to survive when things get tough. However, nature is pretty cruel once you think about it, because every creature would do anything to be the one to survive. Hence, it’s always a fight from which only the strongest prevails and gets to participate in the future of the gene pool.
Boid is a very interesting real-time strategy game in which you have to control a few basic life forms and help them survive for as long as possible. In order to do that, the goal is to acquire more units and upgrade them to more powerful versions, but the game lacks the base building component, which means that every facility you own is actually conquered around the map.
Because of this, you are always in danger of losing your production capabilities, because enemies can easily capture spawn points from you if they are not well defended. On the other hand, you can do the same, which means that the matches are quite engaging and volatile. Multiplayer is encouraged, given the nature of the game, but there’s a single player campaign you can purchase as a DLC if you are interested in the story.
There’s a tutorial in place to get you started with the basics, but given the simplicity of the game, you can understand everything you need to in a couple of minutes. You can control everything using the mouse, although there are a couple of helpful shortcuts that can be used to perform quick unit upgrades. Even so, everything is much simpler than in a regular RTS.
The same goes for the graphics, on the other hand, because there’s not much to look at during the gameplay. Most of the backgrounds are dark and featureless, except for the blurry backgrounds that bring a bit of color to the game. On the other hand, it would be challenging to distinguish the units if the colors were more lively, especially when you consider their tiny size.
Even if Boid is a tad too simple for most strategy fans, it should be the perfect way to start your RTS career if you are new to the whole thing. The multiplayer matches can get pretty exciting if both players know what they are doing.
