People are quick to adapt to new situations, even if in theory almost any kind of worldwide disaster would bring our civilization to its knees. Disease, natural catastrophes or anything of the sort has the power to set us back an awful lot, or even cause a total extinction. However, we always seem to find something to cling on to, which is why humans have managed to survive for so long and evolve.
Bloody Walls is a 2D sidescroller in which you have to kill zombies and stay alive by finding the antidote before the disease catches up with you. Unlike most infections of this kind seen in movies, this one does not seem to have any permanent cure, which is why the antidote only works for a limited period of time. Because of this, antidote vials become the world’s new currency.
As for the gameplay, it appears to be quite simple at first, but the difficulty level increases as you move from one level to the next. Your goal is to explore an office building in search of a large antidote stash while killing everything you come across in the meantime. However, you have to aim using your mouse, which adds a bit of risk to the whole thing, because you need to move quickly.
The monsters get sturdier as well along the way, which means that they require more bullets in order to be put down. They also get sneakier and start to attack you from above, which means that you really have to pay attention to your surroundings. It’s quite easy to do so, on the other hand, because you can zoom out and see a very big portion of the level.
You still have to carefully plan your offense, on the other hand, because it takes a bit of time to aim and reload, and a single bite is enough to end your progress. It’s possible to acquire better weapons along the way, however, which makes it easier to deal with multiple enemies at once. Lastly, the graphics are designed using the Game Boy’s color palette, which is great if you are a fan of the retro visual style.
In the end, Bloody Walls can easily keep you engaged from start to finish, even if it can be frustrating every now and again. It’s a shame that it’s so short, because a bit of procedural generation would have made the experience much more enjoyable.
