Blessings of an Immortal
Investigate a derelict space station and meet a few interesting characters in this short visual novel #Visual novel #Kinetic novel #Adventure game #Adventure #Novel #Sci-fi
Immortality is a subject almost as old as the human race itself, because people always dreamed of being able to live forever. Not only that, but we also imagined many stories about immortal beings such as gods or demigods, all of which were powerful enough to cheat death and constantly get stronger and stronger. We are nowhere near achieving such feats, on the other hand, even if we have substantially improved our chances to reach old age.
Blessings of an Immortal is a kinetic visual novel that approaches the idea of immortality, as well as a few other fantasy and sci-fi concepts. It’s a very short experience, on the other hand, since the whole thing only lasts for a couple of minutes, but it can make you think if you pay attention to the dialog. It also features nice artwork and a few interesting characters.
Speaking of which, the story revolves around an orbital station of some sort that suddenly goes dark, and it’s up to a handful of characters to figure out why. You play the role of Gregory, a man who’s tasked with the investigation of the event. There are three other characters to interact with along the way, but then again there’s no two-way dialog to speak of.
Since this is a kinetic visual novel, there are no choices to make in order to steer the story in the desired direction. However, for some reason you have to click on your answer after every dialog line, even if there is only one of them every time. It’s not a huge issue, given the fact that it’s all over in five minutes or so, but one might wonder why isn’t the whole thing automated.
Lastly, the artwork is actually quite nice, but there are only two or three backgrounds to talk of, unfortunately. This is to be expected in such a short game, but you can’t help but feel like more artwork pieces would have helped with the atmosphere. The music is not original either, but it was wisely chosen to fit the story and the general mood of the game.
In the end, Blessings of an Immortal is way too short to leave any kind of a mark on you, but the idea is interesting enough to be worth more content. Hence, the setting could accommodate more characters and a longer plotline.
