Belly

Arcade games will always have a special place in our hearts since they are a game genre that is always fun, no matter what theme you try giving it.  But the moment you find a theme no one truly tried before and make it work, that's when you realize that you have a recipe for success. Belly is one such game where you control a creature in gestation who faces several waves of monsters.

Now normally when you think of the term "arcade shoot em up" games, you probably think of a top-down view of a ship or something similar, and you shoot anything else that moves on the screen. This isn't the case with Belly since here you control an unborn creature that is gestating in the womb while fighting back countless waves of monsters coming to destroy you.

The entire game is rendered in beautiful 3D graphics, or at least "realistic" would be a more suitable term, since the organic feel of everything might make you go vegan for some time. Those of you that are also squeamish may also find the OST a bit unsettling, and the sound effects to be a bit troublesome, especially when you get hit by a target.

Since you are a fetus, you don't exactly have any powers yet, instead relying on your quick reflexes to reflect the attacks your assailants send at you. Once one attacker is gone, it is just a matter of time until another one spawns, with different attacks and movement patterns.

Few games approach the theme of gestation, viscera, and semi-horror settings the way Belly does, making it a unique experience in the arcade shoot em up genre.
