Anime is a pretty important cultural current all over the world at the moment, given the fact that both Europe and America embraced the unique Japanese cartoons. However, it’s still a pretty new thing for most people, so there are many misconceptions regarding anime, which is why there are ways to educate yourself and learn more about it.
Anime Memory Game is a match-two puzzle game in which you can practice your anime knowledge and improve your memory at the same time. The goal of the game is to flip tiles and match the ones that feature the same characters or scenes, but there are a few annoyances in this regard. In fact, the whole thing is rather complicated if you play for more than a few minutes.
In short, the most important fact is that you have only fifteen moves at your disposal to match every tile and finish the level. As you might suspect, this is not enough to allow you room for a few mistakes, which means that you are constantly restarting the level and trying to get everything right on the first try.
In fact, the high difficulty can make you quit prematurely, given the fact that there’s not much point in going on anyway. The levels never change when it comes to the layout of the pieces, but the background images come in a few different varieties. This is not much of a consolation prize, on the other hand, because it would be much nicer to have a progressive difficulty curve and more layouts instead.
The graphics quality is subpar most of the time as well, although the images used for the tiles are quite decent. You might even recognize some of the anime series featured on them, especially since the developers have chosen some of the most popular out there. There’s no soundtrack to keep your mind busy, and the sound effects are barely audible, not to mention repetitive.
In the end, Anime Memory Game does not feel like a complete game, mainly because there is no level variation and no progressive difficulty to let you get comfortable with the mechanics. Instead, the ridiculous move limit gets on your nerves from the first few minutes and causes you to quit playing way too quickly.
