Sometimes you do not have the time or the patience to enjoy a fully-fledged video game, even if they are theoretically designed to entertain you. However, modern games can be too complex to be enjoyed without a care in the world, since there’s always something that can kill your character or cause you to regret your actions. Thankfully, there are some alternatives to choose from when this happens to be the case.
A Garden Under A Red Sun is a first-person exploration game in which you have to walk around and interact with a few objects while trying to relax and have a few pleasant minutes of peace. The experience becomes boring in a rush, but then again this is not the type of game to keep you busy for hours, especially since it doesn’t feature a story or any characters whatsoever.
The most interesting thing about it is the game world itself, because it’s a combination of alien environments and weird colors, which translates into nice views and the opportunity to take a lot of cool screenshots. It’s a bit of a bummer that there’s no actual gameplay, but then again that’s pretty much stated from the second your start the game.
On the other hand, there are some objects you can interact with along the way, although they cannot be used to complete quests or solve puzzles. It’s a nice distraction, however, because the map is not as big as it looks at first, so monotony sets in rather quickly. In fact, it would be great to see some more maps along the way, because this one is not nearly big enough.
As for the graphics, they are pretty simple from a technical point of view, but the landscapes are visually pleasing and quite colorful. The two-color theme is somewhat unique, although it gets old rather quickly. Everything else is up to standards as well, including the controls and the camera, since it’s very easy to move around, even if a sprint button would come in handy.
In the end, A Garden Under A Red Sun loses its appeal rather quickly, but there’s room for more maps and other ideas as well. Hence, it’s certainly worth a bit of your time, especially if you want something light to relax after a hard day.
