Geneforge 4: Rebellion is a top-down role-playing game with retro gameplay mechanics, which continues the epic saga of the Geneforge series. As the name clearly implies, this title revolves around a huge rebellion that takes place in the world of Geneforge, and you get to pick your side and fight all sorts of dangerous enemies. Not much is changed in terms of gameplay, so fans of the franchise should feel right at home.

As far as the role-playing aspects are concerned, your task is to make full use of your party's abilities in order to defeat enemies and handle all sorts of other obstacles. The characters can be customized with better gear and more powerful abilities later on in the game, but your battle tactics are the most important, given the fact that you can still win encounters even if you do not have the best weapons or armors.

Since this is still a fantasy RPG, magic plays an important role in the grand scheme of things, and you must make clever use of spells at all times in order to come out victorious from every battle.
