Castle In The Darkness is a hardcore action-platformer with Metroid and Castlevania elements, in which you play the role of a knight as he tries to save the kingdom and the princess. The gameplay is designed to be as challenging as possible in many regards, even if it ends up being a tad too annoying sometimes, so it might not sit well with beginners or newcomers to the genre.

Since this is still a platformer at core, many of the game's sections require you to perform precise jumps and make sure you avoid all sorts of obstacles. The combat is important as well, so there are many enemies with different attack patterns and abilities that make your life hell. Hence, it really depends on how patient you are.

As far as the controls are concerned, they are very responsive and well-integrated, which is exactly what you want from an arcade platformer.
