Video game developer Firaxis is continuing to deliver more information about XCOM 2, with a focus on the way the classic Sectoid has been re-designed to give players a new type of challenge.

Apparently, gene manipulation from human subjects has been used to make him more capable, which involves an intimidating frame and full use of powerful psionic attacks.

Firaxis explains that "One such ability is called Mindspin, a roulette-type mental attack that has a chance to disorient a soldier. Mind Control also makes a return, though in XCOM 2 it’ll be a much more early-game threat."

A new reanimate power can also be used by the Sectoid as he serves as the leader of teams of Advent soldiers, which means that his role in the early game is being enhanced.

In the first rebooted game from Firaxis, the enemy was relatively incapable of posing a solid threat even in the early levels and only managed to take out operatives when numbers were involved.

The new game aims to be both familiar and innovative, which means that the developers are offering a mix of classic enemies and some new threats, even as the human character classes are being re-built from the ground up.

XCOM 2 will be launched only on the PC in November.
