The number of players for this MMO is dropping

World of Warcraft used to be all the rage, and it remained the biggest MMO for more than a decade. The number of players for this game has been dropping constantly, and it looks like it's finally on its last legs.

It's difficult to get proper numbers regarding World of Warcraft use, but luckily for us there is such a thing as shareholders, and they must be satisfied. From time to time, some numbers are presented so that they know how the products are doing in the market, and these proceedings are open to anyone who's interested enough.

"World of Warcraft subscriptions remained relatively stable, ending the quarter at 5.5 million subscribers C. Players are excited about the upcoming expansion, Legion, which will feature a new class, customizable Artifact weapons, class order halls, and much more. World of Warcraft remains the No. 1 subscription‐based MMORPG in the world," said Activision Blizzard in its address to the shareholders.

They also said that they would no longer post subscriber numbers, and they feel that other numbers are more important. That's strange since World of Warcraft is a subscription-based MMO and that means the number of subscriptions is the best metric.

Even with fewer players than ever before, World of Warcraft remains one of the biggest MMOs still in existence, and there is no indication that it's going anywhere.
