Dogmeat could be the star of his own show

Dogmeat in Fallout 4 is undoubtedly one of the most lovable companions that have ever been made for a game. It turns out that he can single-handedly be the star of his own movie or TV show.

The guys from GamesRadar put together a very interesting experiment. A player chose to dismiss Dogmeat while he was at the southern border of the game world and started to follow the dog on his long road home.

Bethesda could have solved this little problem like any sane developer would, by teleporting the dog to home base when the player wasn’t looking, but they chose a different path. It turns out that if it’s left to its own device, the dog will take a slow walk home, facing all the dangers of a Real Player. And this is just crazy.

It turns out that Dogmeat is quite a character, but if the player follows it, the dog is not much of a match for the enemies. It sounds like it’s some sort of quantum state experiment, in which the observer influences the result just by watching it.

The video is really entertaining and worth watching, but it also underlines another interesting aspect. The Bethesda developers can be blamed for many things for Fallout 4, and for their games in general, but we can’t really say anything about their attention to detail, even if that means it’s just the walk home of a dog.
