Video game developer EA Sports is announcing that it is no longer planning to feature Patrick Kane on the cover of NHL 16 and will sever all ties with him because of the rape allegations that have emerged during the past few weeks.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the game, and the company says that the athlete will not be used for any promotional moments for the hockey simulation title.

Patrick Kane is a player for the Chicago Blackhawks and was originally set to be featured on the cover with teammate Jonathan Toews, both of them pictured as they raised the Stanley Cup they had won.

It's unclear whether EA Sports plans to add another player to the cover or if it will keep just one player on it.

Patrick Kane was accused of rape in New York, and the investigation into the alleged crime continues at the moment.

EA Sports has made its decision in order to make sure that it keeps the game as far from any controversies as possible.

The new simulation will introduce a range of more realistic mechanics, offering gamers more freedom on the ice and when it comes to the management of their team.

NHL 16 will be offered on September 15 on the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One, and gamers who own an older home console will also be able to get a Legacy version of the simulation.
