Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 developer Treyarch reveals that its new shooter won't support save game transfer from last-gen consoles, like PS3 or Xbox 360, to current-generation devices like the PS4 or Xbox One. This is surprising, considering both previous titles, Ghosts and Advanced Warfare, had such mechanics.

Black Ops 3 is the next major iteration in the first-person shooter series published by Activision. After Infinity Ward released Ghosts in 2013, and Sledgehammer Games delivered Advanced Warfare last year, this time around Treyarch is preparing to launch its own take on the franchise.

A pretty popular multiplayer beta already took place last month, and right now Treyarch's team is putting the finishing touches to the Black Ops 3, ahead of its launch in early November.

While lots of details have been revealed about the game's features and mechanics, Design Director David Vonderhaar confirms that one system isn't making a comeback from previous Call of Duty titles - the save game transfer between console generations.

Those who get Black Ops 3 on PS3 or Xbox 360 will not be able to transfer their save game files and progression to PS4 or Xbox One if they repurchase the title on those devices.

No reason has been given by the developer in regards tot he decision, so it's unclear why exactly Treyarch isn't opting to support such a thing.
