Yves Behar, who is best known for his work on One Laptop Per Child, Ed Fries, a Microsoft veteran who has led the development effort on the first Xbox, and Muffi Chadali, who was part of the Amazon team that launched the Kindle, have announced that they are working on a new home console called Ouya.

Reports are saying that the new device will be open and “hackable” and will use the Android operating system and will deliver an open architecture, with the basic structure easy to understand for all interested developers.

The new home console is designed to be easy to develop for and will cost 99 dollars, only announced for the United States market for now.

The more incredible statement about Ouya is that all games for it will be free and that no dedicate publishing structure will be implemented.

It’s not yet clear when the Ouya might be launched and who might be interested in creating games for the new device.
