The Chinese launch of the Xbox One home console from Microsoft might give the company a big opportunity to reach millions of potential customers, but the company has disappointed a lot of them by announcing that it will completely lock the device for the region.

This means that neither applications nor video games that are launched in other regions will be compatible with the next-gen console that will be in the hands on Chinese customers.

According to Gamesinasia, the information was revealed by Xie Enwei, who is a vice president of Microsoft in China and will oversee the launch of the new device.

This is a disappointment because traditionally a special censorship board inside the Ministry of Culture of the communist state limits the number of titles that can be launched and often asks developers to make significant changes to them before they are launched.

Many gamers in China expected that they would be able to buy digital versions of video games launched outside the country and to access a number of applications.

The announcement will probably mean that the Xbox One will continue to be offered via the gray market in China and might significantly decrease the number of actual consoles that will be sold on launch.

Microsoft's next-gen console will arrive in China on September 23, and during the same month, other secondary markets will get access to it.
