Microsoft says that the launch of the coming Xbox One next-gen console will allow the company to either break even or make a small profit, which is highly unusual for such an event.

Traditionally companies are aiming to capture market share, even if that means selling their devices at a loss for a period of time.

Yusuf Mehdi, the chief marketing officer at Microsoft, is quoted by GamesIndustry.biz as saying, during the City Global Technology Conference, that the company aims to “break even or low margin at worst and then make money selling additional games, the Xbox Live service and other capabilities on top.”

The Xbox One will sell for 499 dollars or Euro when it launches on November 22 on all major world markets.

The executive also believes that, as the manufacturing process gets more efficient, the profitability of the console will increase and some savings might even be shifted to customers.
