The new Halo live action series that Microsoft is preparing for the new Xbox Live in association with Steven Spielberg is based on the core concepts that were supposed to power the movie based on the same franchise that has since been canceled.

Microsoft was set to work with Peter Jackson and the director of District 9 for the Master Chief powered adventure but cost overruns brought down the collaboration.

The new series is being created by a former executive from CBS and Steven Spielberg was brought on board to provide his unique vision.

A spokesperson from Microsoft tells Yahoo that, “We'll have much more to share regarding the overall creative team behind the 'Halo' television series in the future.”

The Halo live action series will be launched exclusively via the new Xbox Live incarnation that Microsoft is preparing for the new device.
