MS Points will finally be eliminated in the very near future

Microsoft has confirmed a few more details about the upcoming shift to real-world currency on its Xbox Live Marketplace, confirming that the transition will be official in late 2013 and that, after the next Xbox 360 system update, adding MS Points to an account will result in the addition of an amount of currency, instead.

For years, Xbox 360 owners have criticized Microsoft for using the virtual MS Points currency on its Xbox Live Marketplace and, after some time, Microsoft confirmed earlier this year that, with the release of the Xbox One next-gen console, it's going to eliminate the MS Points scheme for real-world currency.

The new system is already being tried out by some Xbox 360 owners and Microsoft has revealed a few more details, via CVG.

"After the next Xbox 360 system update, when you go to buy something or redeem a Microsoft Points card or code on your console with your Microsoft account, we'll add to your account an amount of currency equal to or greater than the Xbox Marketplace value of your Microsoft Points, which will be retired," the company said.

The official shift to real-world money will be made in late 2013.
