Developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games announce that they are officially working on Enemy Within, an expansion pack for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which will add new maps for gamers to do battle on, more enemies, new abilities, weapons and gameplay mechanics.

The team says, “Fans will experience an additional three to four playthroughs on average before encountering all of the new material included in XCOM: Enemy Within, providing nearly limitless replayability.”

The new content will be integrated in the wider campaign and gives gamers even more strategic choices to make.

New buildings will allow players to create mech suits for their operatives and to also use gene modifications to enhance their physical power.

The name implies that gamers will have to battle other human squads and the multiplayer experience is also getting new features.

The new XCOM content will be offered at the same time on the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
