Gamers will have to accept losses as they save Earth

The development team at Firaxis and publisher 2K Games have released yet another trailer for their upcoming strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown that’s designed to show players the sacrifices they will have to make as they try to stop the alien menace from claiming ownership of Earth.

The original title in the series was unforgiving and gamers often saw their best operatives die during the toughest operations and the Firaxis re-imagination of the series will also include loss as one of the core emotions.

I played XCOM during the recent Gamescom 2012 event, and even during a rather easy early game mission, I got one of my men killed while protecting a valuable asset so the trailer drives home a very important point about the game.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 on October 9 in the United States and three days later in Europe.
