The developers working on the free-to-play MMO World Of Tanks have announced that there are more than 18 million gamers playing the game at the moment.

The game was initially launched in Russia on August 12, 2010 and since then it has been also released in Asia, North America and Europe, with the Guinness certifying that World of Tanks got the most players online at the same time on just one multiplayer server.

Victor Kislyi, who is the Chief Executive Officer at Wargaming.net, has stated, “We want to thank our game community for their support. Having so many devoted players is extremely rewarding, and our company will provide them with tons of new game content to enjoy.”

Wargaming.net is constantly updating World of Tanks, adding more vehicles to fight with and improving the core game mechanics.

Wargaming.net is also working on similar MMOs built around warships and airplanes from the World War II era, which will probably see normal or beta launches in 2012.
