A number of retailers report that the Wii U home console from Nintendo is suddenly more popular on the United Kingdom market, with a 125 percent increase in the number of consoles bought during the previous week.

MCV says that a number of shops report that a combination of price cut for the hardware and the launch of the Ultimate edition of Monster Hunter 3 have led to a better than expected performance for the Wii U.

No exact sales numbers have yet been released, but if the increase is genuine, Nintendo will surely highlight it as a sign that its new home console is turning the corner.

The hardware has failed to impress since it was launched in 2012 and the company was forced to admit that it would sell a smaller than expected number of Wii U devices before the end of its fiscal year, on March 31.
