The development team at Nintendo is delivering a new firmware update for the Wii U home console, labeled 3.1.0, which is designed to add one major feature while also enhancing the overall stability and performance of the device.

The team states, “The standby functions will now regularly connect to the Internet when the Wii U is powered down to check for available SpotPass data or software and system updates.”

They will then be installed in the background or the next time that the user powers up their device.

No clear information is offered on how the software that powers the Wii U is otherwise changed.

The Nintendo home console is currently performing worse than the company expected and many speculate that a price cut will be introduced later in 2013 to increase its sales.
