Hardware maker Nintendo announces that it has delivered a new firmware update for its Wii U device, labeled 4.0, which will introduce the ability to play all Virtual Console launched titles on the GamePad as long as the gamer uses a Wiimote.

The platform is also getting more options linked to the settings menu, the Wii U chat function and the Internet browser and Dolby Pro Logic II Surround Sound support for Wii titles is introduced.

Users can also opt to get recommendations for both software and game modes via SpotPass from other gamers.

The Wii U now supports USB keyboards and a new friend list is now offered in the main menu.

The team states, “Content deriving from the unauthorized modification of the hardware or software of your Wii U system may be removed. Failure to accept the update may render games unplayable.”

More improvements are set to launch in the coming months.
