The Wii U home console from Nintendo has only managed to sell 7,974 units on the Japanese market for the week that ended on May 12, confirming rumors that the newly launched console needs significant measures to regain steam.

The 3DS handheld sells close to 50,000 units in the same period, according to data from Media Create, although it is also seeing a decline over the previous tracked period.

The PlayStation 3 and the Vita are posting similar sales numbers, hovering around the 12,000 unit mark.

The bestselling video game in Japan is Friends Collection: New Life, which moved a little more than 100,000 copies to players, while second place once again belongs to Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, with Animal Crossing in third.

The rest of the top ten includes: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, Dragon Ball Heroes: Ultimate Mission, Tomb Raider, Ecstasy Wafter: Converted Edition, New Super Mario Bros. 2, Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm 3 and Tousouchuu: Shijou Saikyou no Hunter-Tachi Kara Nigekire.
