Nintendo has confirmed that the original Wii is ceasing production in Japan. Therefore, once the remaining consoles are sold out, there won't be any more manufactured.

Even so, console fans shouldn't worry as this announcement only regards Japan, meaning that Wii's status has not changed in US and the device will be available for purchase during the holiday season.

Therefore, if you were planning to buy a Wii, you will be pleased to know that you can still do so at $130 / €94 for a bundle that features Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

This July, the system managed to surpass the 100-million units sold mark and enter an elite club of just three consoles, along with PS 2 and PlayStation One.

Despite its success, Nintendo's Wii is only its third most popular console, the all-time best seller games device being Game Boy, with a record of 118 million sales, followed up by Nintendo DS.
