The device is seen as a cheaper alternative to the Wii U

The Wii Mini home console from Nintendo, which was launched exclusively on the Canadian market on December 7 of last year has only managed to sell 35,700 units up to the end of January, which makes its prospects for the rest of the world rather grim.

Matt Ryan, the communications manager from Nintendo of Canada, quoted the figures just as his company is getting ready to launch the Wii Mini on a number of other markets.

The device does not have support for SD cards, backwards compatibility or any way to connect to the Internet but it is offered for a reduced price.

Nintendo probably sees that Wii Mini as a way to sell the motion tracking experience that it specializes in to gamers that are unwilling to pick up any other consoles.

Nintendo is also currently selling the classic old Wii and the new Wii U.
