The action takes place in a retrofuturistic 1960s' England

We Happy Few, the weird 60's Britain meets Orwell's "1984" action-adventure title from the makers of Contrast, has just gotten a bunch of new screenshots out.

The images come from a pre-alpha version of the video game, showcasing some of the environments and characters, and giving us a look at the general vibe and art style that developer Compulsion Games is going for.

The game looks colorful and atmospheric, but also a bit creepy. The action takes place in a retrofuturistic version of 1960s' England, in a small town where everyone lives in a state of drug-fueled bliss, oblivious to the hidden and uncomfortable realities of life.

The concept is intriguing and the developers teased gamers about a great evil that lurks behind the scenes of the apparent utopia, an evil that players have to unmask and unroot.

The developers' previous effort, Contrast, was an intriguing game, mixing 2D and 3D gameplay mechanics, playing with shadows, everything set in a gripping noir world.

Given their pedigree, We Happy Few is bound to offer a similarly interesting, if a little unsettling experience.

For the time being, there is no prospective release date, and there hasn't been any mention of platforms either, so stay tuned for more and enjoy the screenshots below.
