DICE is currently testing the feature on the CTE

DICE is hammering away at some pretty exciting updates, and one of the improvements coming our way this spring is much more realistic sound effects.

The developer is currently working on a new Audio Obstruction System on the Community Test Environment servers, meant to more accurately detect and alter in-game sounds, depending on their origin, travel path, and obstacles they encounter.

The way this works is demonstrated in the video below, showing how different gunfire noises are modified in order to reflect realistic collisions with objects and different materials.

Although it’s a small improvement, this will contribute to the video game’s immersive quality, offering players a more enthralling experience while they indulge in multiplayer matches.

Although the military first-person shooter was released at the end of 2013, DICE has been hard at work keeping it up to date and constantly improving it. Granted, it got off to a very rocky launch, and some might see this as the team overcompensating for that.

The company is also working on higher tick rate servers, meant to improve bullet trajectory simulation and shooting accuracy, by increasing the number of client to server updates.

The technology was developed with the help of Battlefield Hardline makers Visceral Games, who already implemented it for the recently released cops and robbers take on the franchise.
