Videogame developer Hammerfall Publishing and Games Workshop are announcing that they are currently working on a new title called Warhammer 40,000: Chess – Regicide, which will be launched on the PC and mobile devices later during the year.

It will use the fantasy role-playing universe and the mechanics of the classic board game to create a novel experience that manages to satisfy fans of both.

Cathrin Machin, the project leader working on Warhammer 40,000: Chess – Regicide, states in the official announcement that the title will deliver both multiplayer and a campaign built around the Blood Angel chapter of the Space Marines.

The executive adds, “The game honours the sheer brutality of the Warhammer40,000® universe. It features a multitude of merciless kill and death animations that were created in a state-of-the-art motion capture studio, utilizing military trained fight and stunt choreographers.”

It’s unclear whether the developers will offer twists on the classic mechanics of chess or whether they will only try to add the violence and lore associated with Warhammer 40,000 to it.

Warhammer 40,000: Chess – Regicide will offer cross-platform gameplay on launch and the biggest factions of the franchise will be included, although so far, a full list has not been offered.
