The team was forced to abandon it because of associated costs

The development team at Volition working on the upcoming How the Saints Saved Christmas DLC for Saints Row IV says that one of the ideas they evaluated was a claymation sequence featuring Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Steve Jaros, a creative director, tells Gamasutra that, “It literally is Saints Row as a Christmas parable. That opens up so many wonderful, stupid things that are just a joy. We’re like giddy children over here. Working with the actors on it has been like constant evil giggles.”

The claymation sequence was not used because the team could not create it using the budget it had available, but the rest of the How the Saints Saved Christmas DLC is designed to be just as outlandish while still using the classic mechanics of the game.

At the same time, Volition will use all the conventions of the classic story linked to the holiday in the content.
